Green Investment: A Path Toward Sustainability & A Greener Indonesia

INVEST Magazine Green Investment

Dear Investors,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the trust invested in Indonesia. I gladly announce Indonesia’s strong economic growth in the first semester of 2022. We have reached 58.4% of the existing target and maintained the inflation rate at 4.35% in June 2022 (YoY). Furthermore, our economy is expected to grow by 5.4% in 2022 and 5.0% in 2023, according to a report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Indonesia has an excellent economic foundation amid global uncertainty that has plagued the world.

Moreover, Indonesia’s set a goal of 23% renewables in its energy mix by 2025 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. This is in line with our main focus for investment in Indonesia which commits to green investment

To chase this dream come true, the Ministry of Investment/ BKPM always continued to promote and build projects to invest in Indonesia. One of our projects is creating a strategic project map of investment opportunities in Indonesia with a pre- feasibility study in the form of informative and comprehensive studies. The map also opens opportunities in all regions of the country because we believe Indonesia’s growth will be evenly distributed with an equal investment distribution.

The construction of Indonesia’s new capital city—Ibu Kota Nusantara, or IKN—also opens several investment opportunities for the private sector. Generous incentives, such as a tax holiday of up to 30 years, will be available. Located in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, IKN will be built under the smart and green city concept, becoming another green investment to build a new work culture, a new mindset, and a new economy, as mentioned by Joko Widodo, president of Indonesia.

I assure you that the government of Indonesia continues to reform our investment climate to make this remarkable country a safe and attractive investment destination to accelerate Indonesia’s economic growth.

Bahlil Lahadalia

Minister of Investment/ Chairman of BKPM
